Reinier Baas, guitar – Ben van Gelder: sax
Guitarist Reinier Baas and saxophonist Ben van Gelder have shared the stage more than 200 times in recent years, but continue to challenge themselves as performers and composers. They have developed a unique vocabulary that is rooted in the American jazz tradition, but at the same time is unmistakably European.
Baas’ lively approach to the guitar is contagious, attracting the listener with unexpected rhythmic and dynamic turns. Critics praise him for his diversity in structure and in idiosyncratic harmonic inventions. Van Gelder is internationally regarded as an authority in alto sax, alternating diaphanous lyricism with explosive virtuosity.
