Paolo Fresu & Uri Caine – UNIQUE ITALIAN DATE
Paolo Fresu, trumpet, flugelhorn, effects – Uri Caine, piano, electric piano
The couple is rotten but the (beautiful) surprises are never lacking. Paolo Fresu and Uri Caine have been artistically frequenting for many years and their association is considered one of the happiest of contemporary jazz. Together they recorded two disks (Things and Think) and held several concerts, without ever running the risk of repeating themselves, of expiring in the routine. The secret of their success lies in the empathic understanding and in the choice of thematic material that is more varied than it is difficult to imagine. In the concerts of the trumpeter of Berchidda and the pianist of Philadelphia you can in fact meet a typical American standard (such as “Darn That Dream” or “Doxy” by Sonny Rollins), in a masterpiece of classical music such as “Let me cry “By Haendel or again in a seductive Italian song like” Do not forget me “. In short, just play the game and let yourself be carried away by the free flow of music that is both “cultured” and “popular”.
